'Rugby is not what fuels my happiness,' says Euan Murray
Faith & Spirituality

From The Guardian:

And so, when his team-mates run out against France on Sunday, what will he be doing? "I'll do the same thing I do every Sunday," he says. "Relax, rest, and enjoy the day. I won't watch the game. It's a day where I can enjoy the Lord." Will it be hard to not think about rugby? He laughs. "Yeah! I'll pray for the team. We'll see what happens. It's challenging. But ultimately rugby's not what fuels my happiness in life."

He stops, and then smiles. "I just wish that games of rugby weren't played on Sundays. Christ doesn't want them to be played on Sundays."

which for others might include a game of rugby. it's my observation that one man's relaxation is another man's chore.

so Christ loves a good game of rugby, but not on Sunday? i wish he'd given a citation for that.

sounds like a nice guy, and he's to be commended for being willing to make sacrifices for his beliefs. if this becomes a problem for him or anything that he might reconsider for any reason, he might consider the American footballer approach of playing his sport for the glory of God.

I was under the impression that he was upset that the rugby on Sunday detracts from the worship of God rather than that God is concerned about on which day we do something...

he mentions in the pull quote that he will "Relax, rest, and enjoy the day. I won't watch the game. It's a day where I can enjoy the Lord." is it only on Sunday that rugby would interfere with "enjoying the Lord"? is it OK if rugby interferes with the Lord on the other six days?

Remember, we Christians have assumed the "Sabbath principle" applies to the Lord's Day. In the spirit of keeping the Sabbath principle, I think, he is advocating that people remember Sunday is for the Lord.

Now, are we to forget about God on those other days? I don't believe that we should and I don't think he implied that we should. Certainly I could be wrong about his views, though.
