Time For Churches to "Come to Jesus" on Illegal Wireless Mics

Spotted at Ars Technica:

It's Judgment Day for churches and other wireless microphone users. Come June 2010, wireless mics will have to abandon the popular 700MHz band, where many have been squatting without authorization.

This will impact pretty much everyone who uses wireless microphones. What is perhaps worse, besides the obsolescence of so much high-dollar church sound equipment, is that this is also a crackdown on unlicensed equipment, which is pretty much *all* church wireless equipment. The legal alternatives involve equipment operating on the same unlicensed frequencies as things like Wifi and cordless phones. Needless to say, these frequency spectra are already so crowded as to not be usable for professional audio use. Rock, meet hard place.

I checked a few months back. The ones in the sanctuary are all sub-700MHz. Now, the ones in the youth room, I don't know about.

Checked ours against the FCC's list on Sunday, we're in the clear. *phew!*
