At CNN:

An evangelical leader is calling for a boycott of Glenn Beck's television show and challenging the Fox News personality to a public debate after Beck vilified churches that preach economic and social justice.

The Rev. Jim Wallis, president of Sojourners, a network of progressive Christians, says Beck perverted Jesus' message when he urged Christians last week to leave churches that preach social and economic justice.

From The Sturgis Journal:

Atheist Agenda, a group of college students from the University of Texas at San Antonio, recently conducted a “Smut for Smut” campaign in which members offered students pornography in exchange for Bibles.

According to wire reports, the group believes religious texts contain violence, spark wars, advocate for the mistreatment of women and are therefore no better than pornography.

From the Washington Post:

Employees at Catholic Charities were told Monday that the social services organization is changing its health coverage to avoid offering benefits to same-sex partners of its workers -- the latest fallout from a bitter debate between District officials trying to legalize same-sex marriage and the Catholic Archdiocese of Washington. Starting Tuesday, Catholic Charities will not offer benefits to spouses of new employees or to spouses of current employees who are not already enrolled in the plan. A letter describing the change in health benefits was e-mailed to employees Monday, two days before same-sex marriage will become legal in the District. "We looked at all the options and implications," said the charity's president, Edward J. Orzechowski. "This allows us to continue providing services, comply with the city's new requirements and remain faithful to the church's teaching."

From The Guardian:

And so, when his team-mates run out against France on Sunday, what will he be doing? "I'll do the same thing I do every Sunday," he says. "Relax, rest, and enjoy the day. I won't watch the game. It's a day where I can enjoy the Lord." Will it be hard to not think about rugby? He laughs. "Yeah! I'll pray for the team. We'll see what happens. It's challenging. But ultimately rugby's not what fuels my happiness in life."

He stops, and then smiles. "I just wish that games of rugby weren't played on Sundays. Christ doesn't want them to be played on Sundays."

Catholic Bishops hold fast in rejecting fertility technology

From The Washington Post:

"Be fruitful and multiply," God instructed Adam and Eve, and men and women have heeded those words ever since. But over the years, God's creatures have become sophisticated enough to rewrite the rules of being fruitful, and most of the new rules don't sit well with leaders of the Roman Catholic Church.

There is "great confusion among lay Catholics regarding the church's teaching on human reproductive technologies," Philadelphia's Cardinal Justin Rigali said at the meeting of U.S. bishops in Baltimore in November. "There is a need to help Catholics understand specific differences between the Catholic understanding and a secular understanding of human life."
